Motion capture using ROS
Motion capture technology is a known technology in sports science for analysis of movement. It is especially used in gait analysis to analyze how humans walk and recognize certain anomalies. Unfornately, it is expensive and can be elaborate to set up.
The Training Technology Lab uses ROS to control and collect all data in the lab, including 2 webcams placed perpendicularly to each other.
With certain ROS packages it is possible to do simple motion capture (/3D modelling) using only camera data and small sheet figures with specific patterns (like QR-codes) on them. This will work as long as the figure is in view, and the accuracy is expected to be sufficient for motion analysis with humans.
A student project could be to implement and test this software in the lab, or possibly as a cheap mobile setup to take outside the lab.
